Last spring Scott and I stayed at a not-so-charming cabin over Memorial Day weekend for our anniversary. Some of you have heard the horror story from that weekend, if you have not heard it, lets just say that I would not recommend renting a cabin, in the middle of no where, sight unseen, for a romantic weekend get-away with your special someone. The one thing that I did like about our cabin was the decor. For the most part it was cute (during the daytime, when the power was on, and the water was still working) and little on the primitive side. I think they choose that style so they could call the dust and cobwebs part of the charm. There were several antique pieces including some really nice crocks and pottery. There was a very large coffee table in the living room that was sprinkled with reading material with information about local places of interest and "must-sees". Far more interesting than the pamphlets was the rag rug that protected the table from the large fabric ball filled trough that was sitting on top of it. In every little shop that we visited over the weekend, and several other shops since, I searched for a rag rug like the one in our cabin. Not so much for the exact colors but the size. It was perfect for the large table. It sent my mind to racing about how nice it would be to find one slightly larger in size for the middle of my dining room table. I have a large wooden bowl as the centerpiece of the table and I fill it with seasonal items. But, I am never truely happy with the runners that I put under the bowl. They always seem to take away from the display instead of add to it.
One day last week while randomly surfing the internet, I cam across directions on how to make a rag rug ! I have carefully read the directions, several times, and watched the attached video clips, several times. I have studied the pictures and watched the ladies hands in the video. With hesitation, I think that this weekend is going to be the time for me to start my rag rug project. She recommends using old sheets to make the project more cost effective. I am not sure that I have any that are the right colors. For some reason, when I open up the cedar chest I am met with a sea of pastels and that is definitely not the color scheme that I want. I guess that prior to starting my project I will make a trip to Wal-Mart to look for sheets that are a little less girly. I will let you know how it turns out....maybe....if it isnt to terrible. I am attaching the link with the directions so if you are ever terribly bored and wondering what to do with all those old sheets, maybe you can make yourself a rug! I am sure that some of you have done this before, PLEASE feel free to share any suggestions with the rest of us.

WOW! I know that I often over use that little 3 letter word, but it is the perfect one to describe my friends who time after time come out to support us. Yesterday we hosted our first ever Super Bowl Spring into Spring party here at Ninnys. It was one of those things that seemed like such a great idea back in November when I decided to do it but, as the time got closer I became more and more nervous about it. As a person who can "take it or leave it" when it comes to watching the Super Bowl, I thought that it would be fun to give the ladies something to do on the big game day. In November it was easy to envision a bunch of guys huddled around the big screen all afternoon watching the pre-game shows while the women sat around wishing there was something fun for them to do....something, anything to get them out of the house. But as November and December passed and I started to spread the word about our upcoming event, I was met with a harsh reality....I am in the minority. There are ladies....lots and lots of ladies....who enjoy the Super Bowl hoopla just as much as the men. That is when worry, verging on panic, set in. What if the unthinkable happened...what if we planned this event....shopped, advertised, planned, cooked, re-set the store and no one came???? What if everyone was busy getting ready for the big game festivities and didnt have time to come to our little event??? I think this is a good time to share a little tid bit with you, I AM A DETAIL ORIENTED, PROBABLY SHOULD GO TO THERAPY, DONT SLEEP FOR DAYS BEFORE AN OPEN HOUSE, WORRIER. I am the sort of person who will wake up from a dead sleep at 3 am thinking about if I put a fresh roll of toilet tissue on the spindle in the store because the old one was over half gone.
Let me tell you, I wasted my time by worrying. My friends are amazing!! We were scheduled to open at 11 am, at 10:25 we had cars parked in the lot, people waiting for us to open at 11. There was a steady flow of ladies (and a few men too!) thru the store right up until closing time. It was 4:58 when the last shopper left. We were exhausted, the store was a mess, the food was almost gone, and it was WONDERFUL!! We are so blessed to have such wonderful friends who come out to support us time and time again. There is just no way to tell you how much you are appreciated." THANK YOU" is not nearly big enough. "Wow "doesnt come close to describing our day with you. Each and every person who passes thru the door here at the store is so appreciated, we couldnt do it without every single one of you. THANK YOU!!

I want to welcome you to our new website. We are definately a work in progress, but we are headed in the right direction. I want you to make this website your own. Use it, comment on it, share it, tell us what you think. It is a lot different from the previouse site and we hope that you like it. We will be adding items to the shopping area shortly. So many folks either have relatives that live away from here and would like to shop at our store or some of our customers are just "passing thru". We want to offer the opportunity to shop at Ninnys even when you cant actually come to Ninnys. I cant offer you a cup of coffee or a free calendar here, but I can offer you the same quality merchandise and great customer service.that you find at Ninnys.
Take a look around the site and let me know what you think of it. See you soon, Kelly
