• Rag Rug How-To.

Last spring Scott and I stayed at a not-so-charming cabin over Memorial Day weekend for our anniversary. Some of you have heard the horror story from that weekend, if you have not heard it, lets just say that I would not recommend renting a cabin, in the middle of no where, sight unseen, for a romantic weekend get-away with your special someone. The one thing that I did like about our cabin was the decor. For the most part it was cute (during the daytime, when the power was on, and the water was still working) and little on the primitive side. I think they choose that style so they could call the dust and cobwebs part of the charm. There were several antique pieces including some really nice crocks and pottery. There was a very large coffee table in the living room that was sprinkled with reading material with information about local places of interest and "must-sees". Far more interesting than the pamphlets was the rag rug that protected the table from the large fabric ball filled trough that was sitting on top of it. In every little shop that we visited over the weekend, and several other shops since, I searched for a rag rug like the one in our cabin. Not so much for the exact colors but the size. It was perfect for the large table. It sent my mind to racing about how nice it would be to find one slightly larger in size for the middle of my dining room table. I have a large wooden bowl as the centerpiece of the table and I fill it with seasonal items. But, I am never truely happy with the runners that I put under the bowl. They always seem to take away from the display instead of add to it.

One day last week while randomly surfing the internet, I cam across directions on how to make a rag rug ! I have carefully read the directions, several times, and watched the attached video clips, several times. I have studied the pictures and watched the ladies hands in the video. With hesitation, I think that this weekend is going to be the time for me to start my rag rug project. She recommends using old sheets to make the project more cost effective. I am not sure that I have any that are the right colors. For some reason, when I open up the cedar chest I am met with a sea of pastels and that is definitely not the color scheme that I want. I guess that prior to starting my project I will make a trip to Wal-Mart to look for sheets that are a little less girly. I will let you know how it turns out....maybe....if it isnt to terrible. I am attaching the link with the directions so if you are ever terribly bored and wondering what to do with all those old sheets, maybe you can make yourself a rug! I am sure that some of you have done this before, PLEASE feel free to share any suggestions with the rest of us.
